Blackjack is the exception on this page. In every other game listed here your decisions change variance but not expected value. In blackjack they change both — playing correctly instead of by instinct is worth roughly a full percentage point of return, which over a long session is real money.

You are dealt two cards and try to get closer to 21 than the dealer without exceeding it. The dealer follows fixed rules; you do not. That asymmetry is where the skill lives.

How it works

1

Hit, stand, double or split

Each decision has a mathematically correct answer given your hand and the dealer upcard.

2

Dealer plays by fixed rules

The dealer must draw to a set total and stand thereafter — no judgement involved.

3

Closest to 21 without busting wins

Going over 21 loses immediately, regardless of what the dealer does after.

📉 Strategy — the honest version

Basic strategy is a solved chart: for every combination of your hand and the dealer's upcard there is one correct action, and following it lowers the house edge to roughly half a percent. It is worth learning, and it is the single highest-value piece of knowledge on this entire page. What does not transfer from a physical casino is card counting — the deck is shuffled between hands here, so there is no running count to track and no advantage to be gained from one.

Common questions

Does basic strategy actually help?
Yes, materially. It is the only game covered here where correct play changes expected value rather than just variance. Deviating from the chart costs you money over time.
Can I count cards on Stake?
No. The deck is reshuffled every hand, which eliminates the persistent count that card counting depends on.
Should I take insurance?
Basic strategy says no. Insurance is a side bet with a worse edge than the main game.
